A second patient infected with the new coronavirus has died in Italy, health sources quoted by ANSA said.
The victim is a woman from the Lombardy region, Milan, according to ANSA. Its age is not yet specified, informs mediafax.ro.
Her death comes just hours after a 78-year-old man died Friday night near the Venetian region of Padua.
Italy has reported its first death from a new coronavirus on Saturday morning, and the number of people infected on the peninsula has increased to 19, the Italian media reports.
A 78-year-old man from a city in the northern Veneto region died on Friday, ANSA news agency announced. Also, in Lombardy, at least 14 new cases were confirmed, the total number of people infected with the new coronavirus reached 19.
The new illnesses have been confirmed in a number of cities in southeastern Milan.
The first to get sick was a 38-year-old Italian runner after meeting someone who returned from China on January 21, without showing any symptoms of the new virus, Italian medical authorities said. That person was kept isolated and appears to have antibodies against the virus.
The 38-year-old man is now in critical condition, writes the Italian press. His wife and a friend were also tested positive. Also, three patients from the Codogno hospital, where the man presented with flu-like symptoms, are infected. So do five nurses and doctors.
